Google Earth anche come plugin per Firefox!

Google Maps pur costituendo una novità enorme nell’ambito dei servizi GIS di tipo consumer rappresenta orami un limite in quanto non consente (utilizzando il solo javascript) di utilizzare l’accelerazione 3D delle attuali schede grafiche. Perchè quindi non realizzare un plugin di Google Earth per Firefox (…e altri)? Finalmente infatti è arrivato!

Newest Nokia mobile N95 will support GPS based positioning

Nokia unveils its fully featured last smartphone N95. Among other interesting feature:
- Integrated GPS and navigator
- Screen size 240×320 pixels (no-touchscreen yet!)
- Extended memory
- Portrait orienation also for display

Telcontar and Mapquest offer LBS developer program

Telcontar and Mapquest had started recently developer programs like Y! and Google for their map web services.
More info on respective web sites. Similar initiative from Via Michelin also.
IMO, Y! and Google open API suffers from the lack or geocoding and vector maps for Europe (but UK).

According to this article by D H Williams on Direction Magazine, Location Based Services have to take off (really) in 2006 and 2007.Infacts, most of technical problems (common standards, terminal computation power and -above all- position accuracy) seem to be solved easily.
